Gerbou, a proud homegrown restaurant celebrating the country’s land, culture and people through its cuisine, furniture and decor, is delighted to unveil the latest edition of its Tashkeel Artist Special Dessert. This rotating concept is developed in collaboration with artists whose works are currently on display at Tashkeel’s Nad Al Sheba 1 Gallery.
Each collaboration begins with an exploration and understanding of the artist’s practice, cultural background and stories behind their work. Gerbou’s culinary team, led by Chef Ninad Salvi, then works closely with the artist to create a dessert that connects their artistic expression with their personal heritage, offering visitors an opportunity to experience the art not only visually, but also through taste, texture and flavours.
This season’s creation draws inspiration from Shamin Sahrum’s exhibition ‘Provisional Sanctuaries’, which reflects the artist’s Malaysian roots and his exploration of memory, belonging and familiar spaces within the UAE.
Representing the exhibition, the Coconut, Pandan & Date Caramel Entremet, bridges the two cultures by effortlessly blending traditional Southeast Asian and Emirati flavours. It features a silky pandan and coconut crémeux, paired with a buttery coconut sablé and a rich date and palm sugar caramel, along with a tangy citrus gel, toasted sesame and gold leaf, finally topped with an intricate chocolate lattice and a gold dusted sphere, aptly representing the Emirates. Its architectural form, layered elements and carefully balanced colours mirror Shamin’s exploration of spatial structures, transforming his artistic observations into an edible experience.
Priced at AED 68 and available from October 23rd to November 27th, Gerbou warmly invites art enthusiasts and gastronomes to extend their gallery visit and indulge in this unique creation, where storytelling and culinary mastery meet in perfect harmony.
