For the animal lovers: Shangri-La Te Touessrok, Mauritius is home to three tortoises whose stories that span more than a century. Toto, at 120 years old, has lived through World War I, World War II, and the sinking of the Titanic, making him not just the resort’s oldest living resident, but a genuine piece of living history. Alongside his comrades Fifi and Lola (both sprightly 80-year-olds), these gentle giants have become the heart and soul of the resort’s children’s program. Furthermore, the hotel is also home to 16 bee hives establishing the largest bee population within the country’s hospitality sector. The hives, lovingly cared for by two dedicated beekeepers, is home to over 700,000 bees which are a mix of Italian and Mauritian Apis Mellifera are essential to the island’s rich flora and yields between 25-30 kilograms of honey per hive!
