7.86KViews

Celebrate a tradition rooted in family, reunion and togetherness beneath the year’s brightest full moon

At China Tang Dubai, located within The Lana Promenade, the Mid-Autumn Festival is celebrated with a special-edition Mid-Autumn Set, featuring three handcrafted mooncakes inspired by the story of Chang’e and Hou Yi. Available on 25, 26 and 27 September, the set brings together a traditional favourite with a contemporary interpretation inspired by the mythical Jade Rabbit.

The story of Chang’e and Hou Yi has long been woven into Mid-Autumn Festival traditions. According to legend, Chang’e ascended to the moon after drinking an elixir of immortality to protect it from falling into the wrong hands, leaving Hou Yi behind. Their story remains closely associated with the festival, with the full moon symbolising love, longing and the hope of reunion.

The Mid-Autumn Set features a classic Red Bean Paste Mooncake alongside two rabbit-shaped Jade Rabbit Hazelnut Crunch Mooncakes, inspired by the mythical companion of Chang’e. Combining crisp chocolate with smooth hazelnut paste, the Jade Rabbit mooncakes offer a contemporary take on the traditional mooncake, balanced by the familiar richness of red bean paste. The set is priced at AED 78 for three, or AED 98 including tea.

A defining tradition of the festival, mooncakes are traditionally shared among family and loved ones beneath the full moon. Their round shape represents completeness, harmony and reunion, making them a fitting symbol for a celebration centred around coming together and sharing at the same table.
